Well, I will not be satisfied with doing something simple, I decided to make the cake very memorable and unique. The little girl at the party is just crazy about horses (who isn’t a little girl???), so I went hunting online to find the best horse cake. You won’t believe all the pictures that come up with a Google search for “basic cake” – there are some really talented and daring cooks making amazing cakes!
I finally decided to go with the Betty Crocker Pony Cake. I was a little worried that it would be too small for this age group, but it’s not, I assure you!
The only problem with the Betty Crocker Pony Cake is the recipe, like many of the traditional North American recipes: a box of Betty Crocker Cake Mix and a tub of Betty Crocker Frosting! thp! Although I love these products, I can’t get them here in Grenoble, so I decided to make the cake using a dark chocolate cake (from scratch), with buttercream. As you can see in the online video on how to make a pony cake, you first have to make 2 round cakes and refrigerate them overnight or put them in the fridge for a few hours. Drying the cake really helps to prevent it from cracking when you cut the beautiful cake into shapes! As you may or may not know, French (round) cake pans have a larger diameter than American ones, so the cake is slightly thinner. To make the most of the top surface of the cake and have as little waste as possible, I enlarged the paper cutouts for the pony’s body, head and tail…so my cake could be half an inch from the “real” one. to big You can find printable templates here. After cutting out the body parts, I assembled the pony. Since it was so big, I had to put it on a big board with aluminum foil. So what do you think I noticed? Problem! Because the cake is baked normally and not completely flat, the head and tail are higher than the body. I should have followed the instructions more closely when cutting the top of the cake, but I didn’t. Instead, I used a bread knife to gently cut the “path” of the pony to join the body. Finally it looks better, as it should! I did the same with the tail. There is one cut that I forgot during this process: Can you guess what it is by looking at the picture of my final product? (except for the candle hole!)

Once the cake was covered with the light brown cake, I applied the white cream (natural color), which I had previously given the color of the mane and tail. I didn’t have a pastry bag or decorating instructions, so I just used a plastic bag and cut a small corner. Applying the mane and tail worked well!
Finally, I used plain cocoa, powdered sugar and a spoonful of milk to create a very thick chocolate for writing and drawing lines. I used it for eyes and feet.
