I love everything about fall. I also love all things horror. Not the scary ones you see in the movies but the sweet fun ones you see in old drawers. That’s why I love this craft, it’s so cute and easy to put together. I have some fun scary ideas here on my page, like scarecrow cookies and a scarecrow spinner activity. My love for horror is real.
Not So Scary Scarecrow Crafts
The history of the Scarecrow can be traced back to the Egyptians. It was used along the Nile to protect their fields from quail. You can still see scarecrows in fields around the country but they are mostly used for decoration.

Choose colored craft paper for the scarecrow pattern. The template includes head, hat, hat strip, overalls, overalls lines, buttons, hair pattern, eyes and nose. Trace the template patterns onto selected craft paper and cut them out using scissors.

Glue the cut buttons (round shapes) to both sides of the general lines. Glue the hat line to the bottom of the hat and glue the hair lines to either side of the head.
Attach the eyes and nose to the cut out pattern for the head. Use a sharpie to draw a picture of the scarecrow’s mouth.
Choose a paper bag or you can prepare your normal size paper bag from brown wrapping paper. We will use the bottom part of the bag as the top part of the puppet pattern. Place the finished pattern on the open side of the bag, keeping the sides of the legs towards the open end.

Attach the lines to the top of the entire pattern, keeping the sides of the buttons flush with the entire base. Use a sharpie to remove the buttons to sew on.

We love this cute fall pattern that’s perfect for preschool, kindergarten, and elementary school kids. You only need a few basic craft supplies and our free printable scarecrow template to make this puppet.
Glue the finished hat to the top of the brown paper bag. To leave enough room for the face pieces, put about 1″ from the hat into the bag. The rest will hang on top.
Using a black marker, draw a lip from one cheek to the other, at the bottom of the bag. Draw lines when you smile.
